Transgender Program Coordinator (Part-Time)

Reports to: VP of Programs

General Description:
The Coordinator of Transgender programs is responsible for the overall development and management of The Center’s program for the transgender community. This includes administrative duties, management of volunteers, community outreach and partnerships, and monthly program offerings. This position requires skills and background in transgender issues, crisis intervention, counseling, excellent written and oral skills, knowledge of common health concerns associated with transitioning, and awareness of and relationship with community services available and appropriate to transgender individuals.

Specific Duties:

Administrative Duties
• Prepare and implement a monthly calendar of events, supports, educational opportunities, and advocacy efforts that build community and increase the visibility of the transgender community
• Maintain computer databases for participants, volunteers, and community providers
• Maintain reports and records
• Prepare monthly email newsletter about transgender program offerings
• Research possibilities for grants and other funding. Participate in grant writing within overall program objectives

Programming
• Work with the Transgender Community Advisory Committee to increase participation in program and event planning, fundraisers and other social/recreational activities
• Coordinate scheduling of all events, fundraisers, social/recreational activities.
• Develop of new programming on an as needed basis
• Organize monthly educational and informational workshops
• Organize and lead the planning and production of the transgender job fairs
• Provide ongoing training on transgender issues throughout the community

Volunteers
• Responsible for interviewing, training, scheduling and supervising volunteers and student interns
• Develop and maintain list of volunteer opportunities
• Oversee volunteer facilitators during support groups

Facility
• Responsible for the safety and maintenance of the physical plant
• Maintain general upkeep of materials and equipment

Counseling of Elders
• Crisis intervention as needed with transgender individuals at a safe location, with referral to and consultation with appropriate resources as indicated
• Oversee management of support groups

Working Conditions:
• Occasional evening and weekend work required. Ability to work in the office or off-site in community locations as necessary.
• Ability to drive.
• Occasional lifting up to 35 lbs with reasonable accommodations.
• Frequent walking, standing, bending and stooping.
• Expected to work extended hours as needed.
